The single art paid homage to painter Kerry James Marshall’s A Portrait of the Artist as a Shadow of His Former Self, itself an homage to Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man. “ Lens” was a lo-fi reflection of Frank’s deceased loved ones and ancestors, who are smiling down on him even while he’s butt-naked blowing someone’s back out. Frank released a solo version with a new verse on the 6th episode of his radio show. “ Biking,” an ode to the sport and allegorical meditation on the cyclical nature of life, featured early collaborators JAY-Z and Tyler, the Creator. Who could forget the image of rubber-banded Delta gift cards and lines like “my guy pretty like a girl”? Frank’s lyricism stood out on the dreamy, understated track, which felt of the Blonde era. On Blonded Radio, Frank debuted his first post- Blonde solo single: the bisexual anthem “ Chanel.” This was also the first single released under his own label, Blonded. Frank also interviewed JAY-Z about the dismal state of the music industry. For the inaugural episode, he spun “ Slide,” his then-new collaboration with Calvin Harris and the future Song of the Summer for 2017. Disaffected by the label’s refusal to release his music for years, he called Endless “a seven-year chess game.” February 24, 2017įrank launched his Apple Music 1 show, Blonded Radio. In the same New York Times interview where he discussed the Grammys, Frank also revealed that Endless , the visual album whose release immediately preceded Blonde’s, got him out of his deal with Def Jam.
